The Caribbean nations and dependencies that make up the CARICOM region countries are a geographic area of focus for the Self-Regulation initiative of Global Actions on Harmful Drinking.
Self-Regulation: In collaboration with local partners and the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA), ICAP has disseminated the EASA Guide & Alcohol Module in CARICOM region countries. We are working closely with beverage alcohol producers there to: build consensus about the need for self-regulation and codes that are customized for each market; offer training to industry members, trade associations, advertising agencies, regulatory bodies, and the media; and provide monitoring as deemed useful by local stakeholders. As a part of this effort, we have identified contacts in regional operating companies as well as regional trade associations, including the Caribbean Brewers Association and the West Indies Rum & Spirits Association (WIRSPA).
We will report progress regularly, so please visit this page again soon for ongoing updates on our efforts.
