The companies sponsoring Global Actions on Harmful Drinking have launched three critical initiatives to address the harmful use of alcohol.
This is part of a broader commitment by the beverage alcohol industry to do its part, along with Member States and other stakeholders, to encourage responsible drinking and discourage excessive or irresponsible drinking. The International Center for Alcohol Policies (ICAP) has been asked to implement these initiatives, in part because the organization has been working in all three areas for more than a decade. A compilation of beverage alcohol industry initiatives in these and other areas of reducing harmful drinking is now available.
We are making a significant effort over the next three years to advance our initiatives around the world, with a focus on low-and middle-income countries. This work addresses:
- Self-Regulation—with a focus on Argentina, Brazil, CARICOM region countries, China, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Ukraine, and Vietnam;
- Drink Driving—with a focus on China, Colombia, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and Vietnam; and
- Noncommercial Alcohol—with a focus on Belarus, Brazil, Botswana, China, Estonia, India, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, and Sri Lanka.
